Each June, a weekend celebration of historic automobiles and a spirited competition make the Scottsbluff/Gering area the epicenter of antique auto enthusiasts. The rally is a precision-driving contest covering about 300 miles of the scenic North Platte Valley in Western Nebraska. Drivers and navigators steer their pre-1958 vehicles on a predetermined course, trying to match a perfect time. The endurance of man and machine, the knowledge of mechanics and timing skills, are all tested as the competitors challenge each other for a substantial cash purse.

Conceived and organized in 1988, the Sugar Valley Rally has grown by leaps and bounds. Last year 70 cars were entered, with competitors from 14 states. Only the Great American Race, has a larger field of antique auto rallyists.  The Sugar Valley Rally is now sanctioned by the Vintage Car Rally Association.  Our overwhelming success is attributed to the hospitable nature of Nebraskans, plus the hosts' ability to stage a clean, competitive event. Spectators enjoy seeing history parade down the highways. The event is popular with all ages and, best of all, there is no charge for the public.

The Sugar Valley Rally is held the first weekend in June. The organizers anticipate 90 authentic vehicles and about 5,000 spectators. Interested? Contact the Sugar Valley Rally at Scottsbluff-Gering Nebraska--Rally Town USA.
